In my previous post, I briefly spoke about the different ways to watch satellite TV including using the satellite TV to PC software.

In this post, we are going to go more into the pros and cons of using the software versus other methods.

1. Costs Involved

Satellite dish systems make use of free-to-air TV channels. While it is free to watch, the installation of a comprehensive satellite dish system can be expensive. A good satellite dish system can easily cost more than $1000. So the setup cost can be a challenge to most families. It is definitely much cheaper to use a PC satellite TV software since the software costs less than $50 in most instances.

Many families subscribe to cable TV or satellite TV services. Initial installation can cost hundreds of dollars if you wish to set up cable or satellite TV for each of the rooms. Thereafter, you have to worry about the monthly subscriptions and each package easily costs more than $100 per month. These are recurring charges.

2. Number Of Channels

Most satellite dish systems can only fetch a limited number of channels depending on where you are located on the map. Even the best and most expensive cable and satellite TV packages can give you no more than 300 channels.

And the selection does not include many international channels. Most are local TV stations. The exposure is not as huge as Satellite TV To PC software which allows you to access more than 3000 TV channels at any time.

It is suitable for the entire family since kids can get to watch cartoons and anime, while teens can watch the movies and variety shows, and adults can tune into news and sports channels.

3. Picture Quality

Whenever there are interruptions such as weather changes or storms, that can affect your satellite dish system. Since the TV channels are streamed directly to your computer, you need not worry about such disruptions. You can continue to enjoy high quality pictures.

It is easy to argue that a computer screen can never be on par with a high definition TV screen. This may be seen as a setback for the satellite TV to PC software, there is a way to work around this handicap. I learned this trick from a colleague.

All you need is to purchase a video cable that transmits data from your PC to your TV. You can then project your PC channel on your TV set. This way, you get to watch your program on your big screen TV.

Frankly, ever since I bought this Satellite TV To PC software, my family has canceled our satellite TV subscription. It’s a huge saving to us. And we get to watch any program we like at any time without having to fight over the TV.

Satellite TV To PC software is a software that allows you to watch streaming TV on your computer. The technology is relatively new and it was made available only 2 years ago.

Since then, the newer versions have been updated with more channels. Even the picture quality has been improved tremendously.

In the past, the only way one can watch satellite TV channels is by using a satellite dish setup. I still remember those days where my dad would set up this satellite TV dish on the roof-top. And it was huge. The selection of TV shows was limited since we are only able to tune to Free-To-Air TV channels within the scope of our dish.

Some years back, our neighborhood switched to the satellite TV and cable TV services. While we no longer have to put up with ugly satellite dishes, the services are expensive. It’s normal for a family to spend over $150 per month to have the entire household set up.

The number of TV channels range from 50 to over 200. The selection was decent really but we realized that many of them are local and not many are international TV channels. And we needed a TV set for each of our rooms. Since I was still young then, I shared a room with my brother and that meant fighting over TV programs as well. Sigh!

So when I first got to know about satellite TV to PC software, I was thrilled. For the first time, we could watch TV on our computers – no cables, no dish and no expensive monthly subscriptions! Since I own a laptop and we have wireless connection at home, I could simply select any of the channel and watch it in the room or kitchen.

The satellite TV to PC software can be downloaded online. I downloaded my copy here. Ok, once it is downloaded, you do need to install it on your computer. It takes less than one minute to do so. If you are stuck, refer to the instructions. But seriously, it is very easy.

From what I understand, it works on most computers and operating systems. As long as you have Windows, it should not be a problem.

Once it is installed, you can start to search for the channels you want. There’s a huge selection of TV channels. The last count was 3000 channels and with each update, the number of channels will increase.

While most of the channels are in English, you will be able to find other language channels as well. Not only that, you will be able to find other countries’ TV shows. One of my favorites are the Japanese anime channels with English subtitles. Of course, you will be able to find sports channels, TV shows, movies, news channels and other interesting shows.

Take a look at the available TV channels here.
